The Micro Oiseau Marketing Guides

The central idea for my Micro Oiseau project was to create a free resource that would be useful to as many people as possible who were trying to set up a business. My idea was the creation of a set of  free marketing guides. Short, practical and helpful, something that would give sound advice and confidence across different aspects of print and digital marketing. They had to have broad appeal and be as useful to a hairdresser, as an accountant, a house builder or yoga teacher. Easily accessible, the guides had to work for as many people as possible.

Free AND useful

Before becoming a copywriter, I worked in theatre, film and TV. Beginning my professional career as a theatre designer working around England, I moved on to feature film production and got involved in a whole range of creative projects with all sorts of different people from all walks of life. I also began writing and this culminated in work for a national television broadcaster, combining my media skills with my passion for learning and sharing through heading up their Viewer Services team. Using my experience I have helped a wide variety of entrepreneurs, sole traders, organisations, charities and businesses talk about what they do, why and how. In collaboration with Ned Hoste my business partner at The Big Ideas Collective, we have worked on lots of different campaigns, and, over the years, I have tucked away plenty of know-how when it comes to marketing and promoting things.

The most logical first step is the creation of a brand, or business identity, and that’s where the guides begin. They then take readers, step-by-step through the different ways to approach selling something, not only that, but also making the most of collaboration, networking and customer engagement.

1.    Be Noticed: how to build a great brand

2.    Be Valued: how to set the right price and sell

3.    Be Seen: how to develop your marketing plan

4.    Be Seen Online: how to develop a good website

5.    Be Persuasive: how to advertise

6.    Be Heard: how to get results from social media

7.    Be Successful: how to collaborate

8.    Be Professional: how to make a great first impression

8+. Be Professional Online: how to prepare for virtual meetings

While writing the Micro Oiseau Marketing Guides I was also working out how I could attract translators, so that I could build up a library of different languages. Where would I find talented translators that would be happy to work on the project with me? What could I offer to help them in return? Next, I’m going to explore how I began to build my community of translators and experience the kindness of strangers.

If the guides may help you, please dig in.
